Soudal opens new production unit in India

Soudal opens its 11th production unit in India!

Soudal continues to grow and has just opened a new production unit; its eleventh already!

On Sunday November 4th, this newest production site was officially inaugurated in Bawal, India. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Governor of Antwerp, Cathy Berx, and a VOKA delegation led by its president, Bernard Van Milders.

Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year 2012

On June 10th, Soudal was present in Monaco for the election of Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year.

Among the the competitiors, we could find Rovio Entertainment from Finland (known from Angry Birds) and LinkedIn (US).

The winner of the award was James Mwangi of the Kenia Equity Bank Limited.

Soudal wins 'Entrepreneur of the year 2011' Award in Flanders, Belgium

On October 11th, Prime minister Yves Leterme announced the winner of the 17th edition of the 'Entrepreneur of the year 2011' award in Flanders, Belgium. Among all finalists, Soudal nv and its founder Vic Swerts came out on top.

With this award, the organizer Ernst & Young rewards successful Belgian companies for their outstanding growth and sense for innovation, entrepreneurship, strategy, sustainability and management.

The other nominees were Arseus, Waterleau and Willy Naessens Group.

Soudal, manufacturer of sealants, adhesives and PU foams for construction, home improvement and industrial applications, has a long tradition of focus on innovation and adaptation to local market needs.

This long standing vision now resulted in the erection of a brand-new Research and Development facility in Turnhout, Belgium, situated next to Soudal headquarters. It underlines the innovative spirit of Soudal.

Soudal expands into Asia

With economic growth figures over 10%, the Chinese market of course interests Soudal particularly. In order to develop a presence on this market, Soudal decided to take over a local manufacturer of PU foams.

Soudal signed an agreement to take over Shija, the third largest player in PU foams on the Chinese market. This deal still needs to be finalized and could already be approved by the Chinese authorities this summer. Soudal expects to close the take-over by September.

In the presence of Flemish Prime Minister Kris Peeters, the president of Soudal, Mr. Vic Swerts and Mr. Ni, CEO of Shija, signed the agreement on Monday May 25^th, in Shanghai. The ceremony was attended by numerous people including the mayor of Shanghai as well as the Belgian consul and ambassador and people from local and Belgian press.

Shija is one of the major manufacturers in China with over 10 million cans of PU foam annually. With its strong growth, this market is rapidly developing into one of the major markets worldwide. By this acquisition, Soudal gains access to the market with a strong presence in the market of construction materials. At the same time, it opens new perspectives for Soudal to offer sealants, adhesives as well as other construction specialties. On the Shija premises, plenty of opportunities are available to invest in local production of these products. Today, Soudal manufactures its products on three continents and with this investment, it adds another center for growth in Asia.

Vic Swerts wins Vlerick Award 2010

Vic Swerts, chairman of Soudal, has been awarded the Vlerick Award in Brussels on april 30^th. The jury selected a leader who marked a track record with sustainable results to bring his company to the international top in its field.

Other nominees for the Vlerick Award 2010 were Jean Stéphenne (GSk), Thomas Leysen (Umicore) and Michaël Bremans (Ecover). The award is given by Vlerick Alumni, the Alumni organization of the Vlerick Leuven Ghent Management School. The winner was chosen through a vote on the Vlerick Alumni website and a live vote by the public present at the event.

Vic Swerts was handed the award by Herman Van De Velde (Van De Velde Group), last year’s winner. On the evening itself, the nominees of the previous 9 editions were invited as well. This group of prominent ‘captains of industry’ illustrates the high level of this prestigious award.

After the announcement, Vic Swerts showed himself sincerely surprised but also honoured to receive this award, which is also an honour for the entire company.
