  • 1929:
    A Norwegian engineer, Erik Rotheim, filed a patent describing the use of a pressure container fitted with valve to dispense a variety of products. The aerosol can was born.

  • 1942:
    Aerosol spray cans of insect repellents are first developed for mosquito-bitten American soldiers during WWII.

  • 1947:
    Aerosol technology is introduced to U.S. civilians.

  • 1974:
    Scientists propose the theory that chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) damage the ozone layer. 

  • 1987:
    24 countries sign the “Montreal Protocol Agreement” agreeing to gradually phase out the use of ODCs (including CFCs).  By 2020 the use of all HCFC’s (HydroChloroFluoroCarbon) has to be stopped completely.

  • 1995:
    Soudal uses for all the aerosol cans (both for technical sprays as for PU foam) propane-butane gas to keep out the CFC’s.
